Bald Cap Appliance

Bald caps are used in many types of media whether it being a film, a TV show or a theatrical performance. Today during our practical class we were shown the correct way to apply a bald cap onto a model.

To begin we started off by brushing the hair thoroughly to remove any knots or tangles. We then soaked the hair with a water spray bottle and applied gel all over the hair ensuring it was spread evenly throughout. We then split the hair into two sections at the back and carefully wrapped one half over to the other side of the head, flattening the ends down against the scalp, and the same on the other side. Then put on a air holed cloth and dry with the cool setting of a hair dryer but not allowing the hair to dry completely. Remove the cloth from the head ensuring the hair stays in shape. Ask model to create bunny ears at the front of their head to fit the bald cap in place.

Cut carefully half way up the back of the ear, and around the inside of the front to allow extra cap to tuck around the ears. Cut carefully around the edges creating a smooth line, and stick down to the skin using matix glue. Using either the airbrush foundation or a Supra colour palette, firstly use a pink tone to take out the lightness which may pick up on camera. Once that is completely dry cover this with a skin tone to create a realistic look.

We then had a go at attaching gelatine pieces which we had made in a past practical lesson.
