Body Modification

Body Modification

When thinking about body modification I firstly thought about body implants and plastic surgery like shown on the earlier post, but when I thought more into it in a more artistic way I realised that the body can be modified through using simple products like sticky tape, cling film and tights. All of these ways to change the face or other parts of the body can make an image look really interesting.

Photographer Wes Naman has been taking pictures of people for his ‘Scotch Tape Series’.
He applies the sticky tape to his models faces to obscure and stretch them in weird ways.
The tape makes their faces bulge and contract at odd angles, making them look as if they’ve had plastic surgery. Some look sinister while others just look bizarre. I really like the effect that the tape gives as it takes little effort to produce and gives a really effective look.

Tattoos

Tattooing yourself is another way of modifying the body without having to sit through any major under anaesthetic surgery. It is still a painful few hours while your body is decorated in the colourful inks, although the pain will only last until it is finished. The generation that I live in is a generation that is completely crazy about tattooing themselves. Some people with a unique personal reason to having the tattoo, but there are also plenty of people that get tattoos to just 'follow the crowd' and get the same old 'chav tags'.
I don't personally have a tattoo yet. I say yet because for the past couple of years I have been meaning to get one, but I just can't decide on the right design! A tattoo is something that I don't want to rush into after a first great idea. I mean, if that was the case I would have had 'YOLO' tattooed onto a part of my body which I now cringe at the thought of.
